Wyam Tabris is the Hero of Ferelden and Warden-Commander of the Ferelden Grey Wardens, assuming the position after Duncan's death and the end of the Fifth Blight. He also serves as Arl of Amaranthine.

He is described by many as being cold and logical. Yet he cares deeply about his people, and will sacrifice much to keep what he holds dear safe. Surviving the Archdemon took a significant toll on his physical health, however, and he spends more time behind a desk than on the field than he cares to.

Background

Wyam was born in 9:11 Dragon in the Denerim Alienage. His mother, Eliyna, died in childbirth, leaving Cyrion to raise him with the help of Adaia, a family friend. Later, the two would fall in love and eventually marry, and Adaia became his step-mother. She taught him, among other things, basic combat and stealth techniques— she was a bit of a delinquent herself, after all. In his youth, he partook in petty crime to help his family get by, including work with Slim Couldry, though it occasionally got him in trouble. When he was fourteen, Adaia was killed by humans for being "unruly," and Wyam was gravely injured as well.

Involvement

Origins

At nineteen, Wyam was arranged to be married to Nelaros from the Highever Alienage, but the ceremony was interrupted by Vaughan Kendells, the Arl of Denerim's son. Him and several other women were kidnapped for "entertainment," and he slaughtered his way out of the estate. He was only saved from imprisonment due to being recruited by Duncan into the Grey Wardens. Of those he was recruited with, only two others survived the Joining: Galeas Cousland, the Teyrn of Highever's second child, and Revka Brosca, a casteless dwarf from Orzammar.

The same evening he participated in the Battle of Ostagar, intending to push back the growing darkspawn horde. Instead, the Grey Wardens were massacred, King Cailan Theirin was slain, and Teyrn Loghain Mac Tir had retreated to Denerim, claiming himself Regent. Wyam, Alistair, and the other two recruits were the only Ferelden Grey Wardens to survive the battle after being rescued by Flemeth.

The four of them quickly set out to make use of the Grey Warden treaties and seek the aid of Arl Eamon Guerrin of Redcliffe. It is noted that they were responsible for saving the town of Redcliffe from undead, breaking the werewolf curse in the Brecilian Forest, ending an uprising in the Ferelden Circle of Magi, placing Bhelen Aeducan on the throne of Orzammar, and discovering the Urn of Sacred Ashes. After amassing enough forces to defeat the Archdemon, they set out to Denerim, where they helped Anora Mac Tir retain her title as Queen of Ferelden, and Teyrn Loghain Mac Tir was slain by Wyam in a duel.

On the eve of the Battle of Denerim, Galeas and Morrigan performed a ritual in secret that would save the life of the Grey Warden destined to slay the Archdemon. As such, Wyam survived the killing blow, and was later crowned Hero of Ferelden for his work. He assumed the role of Warden-Commander of the Ferelden Grey Wardens. He was also gifted the title of Arl of Amaranthine by Queen Anora Mac Tir, and his cousin Shianni became Bann of the Denerim Alienage.

Awakening

Six months after the defeat of the Archdemon, Wyam assumes his role as Ferelden's Warden-Commander and begins rebuilding the base of operations in Vigil's Keep, Amaranthine. René Caron is sent from Orlais to serve as Warden-Constable and assist Wyam in these efforts. The darkspawn have not yet retreated to the Deep Roads, and there are reports of a highly intelligent breed of darkspawn. During his investigation, he finds they have split into two warring factions, led by the Mother and the Architect. Eventually, Wyam was able to defeat both the Architect and the Mother, though Vigil's Keep was destroyed in the fighting. The people of Amaranthine are noted to have helped the Grey Wardens with the rebuilding efforts. A few years later, he takes in four children saved from becoming Antivan Crows and raises them as his own.

Inquisition

As Grey Wardens across southern Thedas begin to hear their Callings simultaneously, internal panic begins to brew. Warden-Commander Clarel calls a meeting between the Ferelden and Orlesian Grey Wardens, discussing a plan to— with the aid of Magister Livius Erimond— raise a demon army, invade the Deep Roads, and kill the Old Gods before they awake. Wyam vocally dissents, refusing to work with a Tevinter magister, and heads westward to seek a cure to the Calling. He appoints his son Kestrel Tabris as heir to the Arling, should he not return.

Trivia
