Cassius Trevelyan, also known as Cyrille or La chanteuse d'Arnee, is an Inquisition Spy and former Orlesian Bard who worked for Comtesse Marie-Madeline d'Arnee for several years.
Background
Cassius was born in 9:12 Dragon in Ostwick to the elven servant Lydia and Bann Montrose Trevelyan. According to their mother, the affair was a result of Bann Trevelyan's growing dissatisfaction with his wife, Lady Elodie Trevelyan. Lydia indulged in his desire, foolishly believing that he truly loved her and that their affair would truly lead anywhere. After Cassius was born, Lydia was forced to keep Cassius from public view, as their appearance was too similar to that of the Bann's. Cassius faced the ire of both Bann Montrose and Lady Elodie in their youth, being physically abused by the ladder and neglected by the former. Often, they would sneak out from the servants quarters and watch noble gatherings from dark corridors and rafters, longing for the life they felt was stolen from them.
When they were seventeen, their mother gave them a sum of money to help them "get away from Ostwick." They used the funds to travel to Val Royeaux, and worked as a street musician before being spotted by Comtesse Marie-Madeleine d'Arnee, who molded them into a proper Bard. They excelled in their craft and enjoyed it, but still felt like they were missing something. They longed for more and more, attending fancier gatherings, taking on higher-risk infiltrations and assassinations; they were hardly ever satisfied.

- Varric's nickname for Cassius is "Songbird".
- Cassius' three half-siblings are as follows:
- Gabriel Trevelyan III, the eldest, who interits the Bannorn after Lord Montrose and Lady Elodie are assasinated by Antivan Crows in 9:38
- Émile Trevelyan was sent to the Ostwick Circle of Magi, and became a full-fledged mage. He was sent as a representative of the Ostwick Circle to the Conclave at the Temple of Sacred Ashes. He did not survive the explosion.
- Odette Trevelyan joined the Templar Order, and fled to Therinfal Redoubt. She fled the Red Templars just before the Siege of Haven, eventually ending up captured by and recruited into the Inquisition, so that her corruption by red lyrium could be studied.
